This is the devastation that faced Debby and her husband Mike when they came up from the storm shelter after a tornado struck near Norman, OK. Fortunately, Debby and Mike are both fine, as is their cat, but the house and all its contents, including Debby’s artwork for an upcoming show, her journals, and her art supplies are all gone.
Those of you who are on Facebook may have seen this information and many of you have asked how best to help. Debby, through her sister Dorianne, has asked that those who want to help donate to the Red Cross. An artist friend of hers has started collecting art supplies and donations for supplies (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=125240770820538). The NBN team is still thinking through what’s best and most helpful, especially for those of us who are too far away geographically to offer in-person assistance.
We’ll keep you informed as we learn more, and particularly if we learn of specific ways to help. We’d welcome your thoughts.
On behalf of Mike, Nate, Seabrooke, and all the NBN members, I’d like to extend our concern, sympathy, empathy, and best wishes, along with any help we can provide, to Debby and Mike.
I just got this update from Lauren’s Facebook page:
**5/14/2010 12:50am UPDATE**
For those interested in sending art supplies directly to Norman, I added a Norman, OK address to the event. As well I just configured a PayPal account for those interested in donating to our cause financially. Please find the donation button on my blog at:

Thanks!

Thank you for posting information about the campaign to rebuild Debby’s studio. On the Facebook event page, I have posted information about where people can send art supplies. As soon as I set up an account for monetary donations, I will update the page accordingly.
Much love,
Lauren
For the record, her blog is the fabulous Drawing the Motmot.
Lauren, Thank *You* for coming up with such great way for all of us to show our care, concern, and support.
