Hey guys. I hope you enjoy this segment of the NBN Blog as much as I enjoy doing it. It’s actually a lot of fun to go through the rolls and see not only the diversity in our community, but to bring people together than might not have realized that they’re part of something bigger than their little corner of the internet.
I’d like to think that this is a community project in some way. in the past couple months I’ve asked people from the communities I look to focus on to help me but self-submitting their blogs. This has been extremely successful, not only from a community building perspective but also from a time management one, at least for me.
In the nearly one year since I began I’ve covered blogs from all over the world, but I’m running low on ideas. That’s where you come in, dear reader and NBN member. Is there a region or genre you’ve been waiting for me to cover? You’re in luck!
What groups would you like to see featured?
They can be geographical regions or blog genres, it doesn’t matter and both are appropriate. Please leave your ideas in the comment section. I look forward to hearing what’s on your minds!

I think the NatureBlogNetwork should participate in Donors Choose this fall–and we should challenge the ScienceBlogs folks.
Not *exactly* networking, but sort of

Not an overwhelming response here, huh, N8? It’s true you’ve covered a lot of ground over the year you’ve been doing this. It might be alright to revisit older topics that you covered last winter (eg. insects). How about “celebrity” blogs (though it might be hard to define what makes a celebrity)? Or blogs of published authors (with a mention of what they’ve written)? Maybe tour-group or tour-leader blogs. Blogs that are primarily dedicated to presenting the latest nature headlines. Poetry blogs (have you covered that already?). Bird-banding/hands-on-research blogs (banding and capture often get a bad rap, but if done right result in minimal stress to the animal while providing invaluable data available by no other means). Sharing nature with kids. Spiritual nature (not my thing, but would appeal to many). That’s what I can come up with off the top of my head, anyway…
@BugGirl- I like the idea of participating in Donor’s Choose, especially for nature themed activities and projects.
@Seabrooke- Thanks for the ideas. I’ve also been considering the prospect of going back to some of the older themes and adding to them. For many, the NBN was a much smaller place when I began and those new members shouldn’t be at a disadvantage because I’ve already covered them several months ago.
Darren Rowse (ask Mike about him) says to go back to old posts, refer to them and amend them.
Seabrooke had it right: KIDS! No one gets as excited about nature as kids do!
And yes, the spiritual side of nature is important to many of us.
There’s so much more to nature than just birds! My most successful post was nature quotes, and then Frank Lloyd Wright (who my mom worked for). Lots of categories in nature!
To me it’d be interesting to read more about fungi and mollusks such as snails and slugs. Birds and flowers are very exciting too but as far as I could see there is so little blogs about the above mentioned topics..
