One of the recurrent themes in member feedback is interest in an up-to-date list of member posts. There are several ways to do this, but in the interests of getting something up and running quickly, we’ve set up a quick-and-easy solution via Google Reader. If all goes according to plan, there will be multiple ways to see the feed.
First, it’s on the new NBN page,
NBN Blogs Update – A Nature Blog Network Experiment Updates from NBN Members’ Blogs – A Nature Blog Network Experiment, and you can always visit that page to see the latest posts from your fellow members. As beta testers, I used the NBN team member’s blogs, but now am opening up the feed for wider participation – more on that below.
At the bottom of the new page, there’s a link to subscribe to the feed. You can use Google Reader or any other feed reader to follow the posts.
And there’s also a Google Reader Shared Items Page that you can read or subscribe to. This also gives access to older posts that have scrolled off of the NBN page.
Plus, the Nature Blog Network is now on Twitter and will be tweeting member posts there as well as this blog. Follow us!
I’m still working on getting the members’ posts feed to publish to our Facebook Fan Page and Facebook Group. There’s a problem between Twitterfeed and Facebook, but they are working to fix it. I’ll talk more about our Facebook presence next week.
As I said, this is an experiment, and it’s likely that we’ll need to identify a more robust system in the long run. If you’d like to participate in our initial beta project, use the contact form to let us know. We’ll be adding members a few at a time, so it may take a while to process everyone if there’s a lot of interest.
In addition, we’re planning some additional features and new content. We’ll be looking for more volunteers, so let us know if you’d like to help out with one of our existing projects, or have an idea you’d like to champion. Creativity and enthusiasm are in high demand.
