Flora to Plants?

Last week, I broached the topic of splitting the Nature Blog Network category of Ecosystem into smaller, more specific categories. That fruitful conversation is still going, so don’t hesitate to add your two cents. But before I commence recategorizing the NBN, I’d like to turn our collective attention to another category: Flora.

One suggestion has been to rename Flora as Plants. Does anyone, particularly a Flora blogger, have an opinion on this idea? Do we need a variety of vegetable-based categories such as Plants, Trees, and Forests, that last representing a wooded Ecosystem? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

And before anyone suggests a Garden category, be advised that this isn’t the right community for dedicated garden bloggers, who happen to have a thriving community of their own.

I like Flora more than Plants, but I can’t explain why. A flora is where we go to find out about plants. A region has its own flora. Plants belong in a flora, not in plants. See, I told you I can’t explain why.
I don’t think there are enough Flora blogs to begin breaking them up into smaller categories - this is always the temptation of science to become ever more specialised.
Ecosystem? Yes, that would be easier to explore if sub-categorised a bit but I don’t know how you’d do it because so many of the blogs seem to cover the diversity of whole ecosystems.
