Submissions can be sent to sanderling [at] symbiotic [dot] ca, with the subject line “NBN Bulletin Board”. Don’t forget to include your blog’s name and URL. The weekly board will be posted every Sunday.

Member contributions

10,000 Birds is thrilled to announce a successful campaign to raise $500 USD to fund a protection mission/survey of the excruciatingly endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper. On October 22, Charlie Moores released details of this effort during an interview with Dr. Christoph Zöckler, who will conduct this survey. In just one week, 10,000 Birds readers generously chipped in an amount exceeding the initial target, with money still pouring (or at least trickling) in! Read about the plight of the Spoon-billed Sandpiper and international efforts to save it from extinction. Don’t worry if you missed your chance to contribute to this worthy conservation cause; 10,000 Birds will be announcing more opportunities to directly fund critical efforts to protect beloved avians abound the world.

Member participation

DNLee at Urban Science Adventures reminds members that the Diversity in Science blog carnival is once again in full swing. Nature bloggers are invited to participate by contributing posts on diversity (of people participating, not of things being observed) in areas such as birding, outdoor recreation, nature artistry, hunting/fishing, environmental education and natural history. The deadline for the next edition is November 15, and the carnival will be posted on November 20; you can submit your posts through the online submission form.

Meet-ups and Field Trips

Dawn of Dawn’s Bloggy Blog and the Birders who Blog, Tweet and Chirp are doing it again - this time in California! The next BwBTC outing is scheduled for the Sacramento Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, November 21. It’s open to everyone, and is a great way to meet some fellow like-minded birders and bloggers! For more details on the specifics of the event, or to sign up to participate, visit Dawn’s post here. The outing will be hosted by Larry Jordan of The Birder’s Report. For a taste of some of the birds to be seen, visit Larry’s post recounting a recent visit.

Contests and Promotions

Amber of Birder’s Lounge also reminds members that her photo ID challenge and Do Something! (Good) campaign are always ongoing. Some great causes benefit from both of these, so swing by and participate, if you haven’t already!
