Webinars and Web Events

Tania of ArtPlantae is excited to announce a special live online Q&A session with Sarah Simblet, author of Botany for the Artist, a book that introduces botanical terminology and concepts to aspiring or established artists who want to better understand their subjects (just like Renaissance painters would dissect dead bodies to better understand musculature and the shape of the human form, so too will understanding more about plants help you in portraying them in your art – and if you read this book, no dissecting is required). The book also offers many tips and insights on painting and drawing, using her own work as examples. You can read more about the book here.

On Thursday May 27, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. PST, ArtPlantae will host a one-hour webinar with the book’s author, Sarah Simblet. Sarah is preparing a special presentation and will answer questions live from the UK. All participants will receive a copy of Botany for the Artist upon registering. The cost of this special author event is $40 (plus shipping). Registration closes Monday May 24, 2010. More information about the event can be found here.

Community aid

Earlier this week, NBN posted about the destruction in a tornado of the home of artist and NBN member Debby Kaspari of Drawing the Motmot. Though Debby, her husband Mike, and their cat Gizmo, all survived the tornado unharmed, they have lost their house and most of their possessions. Debby has asked for people wishing to help out to make donations to the Red Cross, which will go toward local relief efforts. Those who wish to make a more personal contribution can also donate using the PayPal button at this blog post by Debby’s friend Lauren of Ramblings of a Bird Nerd.
