There’s always something going on in the nature blogger community. It was great to hear about the Birders who Blog, Tweet and Chirp field trip that guest blogger Christopher of Picus Blog wrote about earlier this week. By the sounds of it, everyone had a great time! This week we have news of another meet-up and a few contests - more details below.
Don’t be shy, if you have news, event or classified listings that you want to share with the NBN community, send your info to me for posting on the community board, to get the word out to everyone! Submissions can be sent to sanderling [at] symbiotic [dot] ca, with the subject line “NBN Bulletin Board”. Don’t forget to include your blog’s name and URL. The weekly board will be posted every Sunday.
On Thursday we had a guest post by Christopher of Picus Blog sharing the great experiences he had leading a field trip of nature bloggers. The event went so well that Dawn and Jeff of Dawn’s Bloggy Blog, co-organizers of the first trip, have begun organizing another Birders who Blog, Tweet and Chirp outing. This one is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, departing from Milford, CT, and will be led by Luke of Under Clear Skies. If you’re interested in joining the group, leave a comment at the BBTC outing’s page so you can be added to the list of attendees!
It’s been mentioned on the NBN blog before, but I’ll mention it again: Wildside Nature Tours is offering a FREE trip to Puerto Rico (well, minus the airfare which you have to cover yourself, but it’s not that expensive as flights go). All you have to do is find the answers to three questions from within their site and email them to 10,000 Birds (charlie10000birds [at] gmail [dot] com) by midnight EST on JUNE 30TH 2009 - that’s just over a week from now! The winner will be randomly chosen from the correct entries. Pretty easy, right? More details on the contest can be found at 10,000 Birds.
In my latest edition of the blog carnival The Moth and Me, I’m offering a contest to readers: visit each link and find out the name of the moth and the country that the moth is from. Email me with your answers (sanderling [at] symbiotic [dot] ca) on or before Thursday June 25th. Everyone who has all of the answers correct will be entered into a draw for a $5 Amazon.com gift certificate (or the Amazon appropriate to your country). So okay, it’s not the $20,000 that Canon Canada is giving away, but I rather suspect your odds are better, and it certainly involves less work. Mostly, it’s a not-so-subtle attempt to show off just how cool and diverse moths are, and get you to go actually visit some of these sites!
Amber of Birder’s Lounge also reminds members that her photo ID challenge and Do Something! (Good) campaign are always ongoing. Some great causes benefit from both of these, so swing by and participate, if you haven’t already!
And finally, don’t forget to call your dad and wish him a Happy Father’s Day!
