The Festival of the Trees deadline was actually yesterday. Please refer to the coordinating blog for deadlines. It’s almost always in the top post in bold type.

Nate has been giving April 29 as deadline for Festival of the Trees every carnival round up since April 7. That is April 7, April 14, April 21 and April 28. Only today on April 28 does Dave tell us the deadline was yesterday! Well thanks! I submitted my first ever contribution to the carnival today April 28, only to learn I missed the deadline.
That cannot be! I missed the flight?
Will never try to blog about trees again!

I typically just subtract two days from the scheduled date of the carnival. That’s what I did for this one, without seeing the date in the post.

I’ll take the blame for this one. Sorry guys.

Gunnar, I’m sorry I didn’t catch it sooner. But keep in mind the Festival of the Trees is not affiliated with the Nature Blog Network in any way, and cannot be held to blame if potential contributors don’t click through to the coordinating site.

For future reference, we almost always have a Call for Submissions post up by the 7th of the month (I shoot for the 5th, but don’t always remember). The deadline varies because we think it’s more important to accommodate the needs and desires of our volunteer hosts than to conform to some unvarying pattern. You can subscribe to the coordinating blog by email, via Feedblitz, if you want to make sure and receive each CFS. At any rate, we do appreciate the coverage of FOTT and other blog carnivals here.

Let me expand. I never submitted anything to FOTT and had never heard about it untill I read about it on NBN sometime in March. I was thinking that it was not a carnival for me. After all I am a birder and secondly I don´t know much about trees. However, on Saturday April 4, I was in the park near my house with my daughter and a point and shoot camera. I was very impressed by the flowering Ceiba tree. And took some snap shots of it and some other flowering trees and bushes, thinking it could make a good blog post – and then remembered having read about the carnival on NBN. Thus the idea was kept in mind for three weeks and finally spent three hours yesterday to write and upload my first contribution to Festival Of The Trees. Having secured for three weeks that the deadline should be today and submitting one day before the proposed deadline, seemed OK.
I’m very disappointed which is why I will keep away from Trees in my blog from now on.

I don’t know what to tell you, Gunnar. I’m sorry I got the date wrong.

If indeed you miss this one and the host doesn’t decided to use your post, ultimately it’s up to their discretion, then there’s a FOTT next month that I’m sure would be happy to have it.

Better yet, it appears they’re looking for a host, too. So you could host and be absolutely certain your post is included.

No problem Nate. I just thought they’d be a bit more lenient, considering all the PR you guys on NBN do to promote the carnival.

Don’t know about hosting the carnival though….I’ll give it a thought.

Nate, my blog post made it and was included in the carnival Festival of the Trees. Thanks for helping out.
